Karnataka will soon have the country’s first ‘level III’ datacenter, on its way to scoring yet another first in the e-governance sector. The datacenter will be used to host government applications and related data, and will have a storage capacity of over 90 terabytes (TB) to meet the digital storage needs of Karnataka.
The state government has already prepared a request for proposal for the project and is awaiting approval from the central government. “In about two months from the date of approval, which could be any day now, the datacenter will be operational,” M N Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary of the Department of E-governance says.
The datacenter, partially funded by the DIT, will cost Rs. 60 to 65 crore, and will come up at the Vikasa Soudha. The facility, in its first phase, will have a storage capacity of over 50 TB and in its second phase, over 90 TB.
